Bankruptcy Filings Fall 2 Percent
Bankruptcy filings in the 12-month period ending December 31, 2018, fell 2 percent, compared with bankruptcy cases filed in calendar year 2017. According to newly released data, 773,418 cases were filed in 2018, compared with 789,020 in the previous year.
Bankruptcy filings have steadily declined since reaching a peak in 2010. The number of bankruptcy filings is the lowest for any calendar year since 2006.
