Overview of the Position: The U.S. Pretrial Services Office for the Middle District of Florida is currently accepting applications for the position of Pretrial Services Technician in Fort Myers, Orlando, or Tampa, Florida. The Middle District of Florida consists of five divisions: Jacksonville, Ocala, Orlando, Tampa, and Fort Myers. The assignment of a duty location is at the discretion of the chief pretrial services officer. More than one position may be filled from this recruitment. This position will be under the direct supervision of a supervisory pretrial services officer. The Pretrial Services Technician provides technical, administrative, investigative, and case management support to pretrial services officers and other members of the court unit. This includes assisting with performing pretrial investigations, assisting with supervision of persons on pretrial release or diversion, and assisting with detained cases. The incumbent will assist with administrative support by assisting with database entries, managing electronic case files, and providing receptionist coverage and completing general clerical duties as needed.

Position Description

The U.S. Pretrial Services technician:

Qualification

High school graduate or equivalent required, plus two years general experience which is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the possession of, or the ability to acquire, the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position. Clerical experience obtained in a court or related legal field is preferred. A basic knowledge of the criminal justice system is preferred.

Applicants should have the ability to give and receive accurate and timely information, and the ability to work independently, yet cooperatively with others in a fast-paced environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills, good knowledge of, and skill in, the use of computers, software applications, and typing ability required.

Employees of the Judiciary are not covered by the Office of Personnel Management’s civil service classification system or regulations and are considered “at will” employees. Judiciary employees are, however, entitled to the same benefits as other Federal employees. These include:

Starting salary depends upon experience, qualifications, and funding availability. This temporary position may become permanent or continue past the initial NTE date without further competition. Additional promotion potential to CL 24 without further competition.
