March 2016 Bankruptcy Filings Down 8.5 Percent

Bankruptcy filings fell 8.5 percent for the 12-month period ending March 31, 2016, compared with the year ending March 31, 2015, according to statistics released by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. The March 2016 annual bankruptcy filings totaled 833,515, compared with 911,086 cases in the year ending March 2015.

The following bankruptcy statistics are available: 

  • Business and non-business bankruptcy filings for the 12-month period ending March 31, 2016. (Table F-2, Business and Nonbusiness Commenced by Chapter),
  • 2015 and 2016 Bankruptcy Cases Commenced, Terminated and Pending (Table F),
  • 2016 first quarter filings (Table F-2, 3-Month) and filings by month (Table F-2, January, February, March.)
  • Bankruptcy filings by county (Report F-5A).
