A U.S. Courts video features the Judiciary’s annual honoring of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, depicting many of the more than 50 naturalization ceremonies conducted by federal courts across the country.

Throughout September, judges administered the Oath of Allegiance at well-known sites, including the USS Missouri in Hawaii and the National Archives in Washington, D.C. Constitution Day and Citizenship Day formally occur on Sept. 17, honoring the day that delegates signed the draft Constitution in 1787.

Naturalization ceremonies are living civics lessons in citizenship, and in many ceremonies, students participated by leading the Pledge of Allegiance, singing the National Anthem, or presenting handwritten welcome letters to new citizens. In the video, judges and new citizens also discuss the rights and responsibilities that come with U.S. citizenship.
