Documentary Looks at Re-Entry Program

Published on May 22, 2014

Offenders coming out of prison often struggle to find housing, employment, and to reconnect with family. Many fail and, falling back on old behaviors, offend again.

A program in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania that helps offenders successfully reintegrate into society is the focus of a Bucknell University documentary. The student-produced video is based on a series of 2013 interviews with offenders who are current and former participants in CARE, the Court-Assisted RE-Entry Program, and the federal judges, probation officers, prison warden, and community volunteers who work with them.

Judge Yvette Kane (M.D. Pa.) who helped create CARE in 2009, calls the program “the gateway to a successful return home and a successful adjustment to life in the community.”
