New Report on Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court Issued

Published on April 20, 2017

In calendar year 2016, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court denied 9 applications in full and 26 applications in part. For an additional 339 applications, the Court modified the orders sought, while for 1,378 applications, the Court granted the orders sought without modification. Starting this year, the report contains orders denied in part as a separate category, rather than including them in the category of "orders modified."

This is the second year of publication of the Report of the Director of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts on Activities of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Courts. The Report is required under the USA FREEDOM ACT of 2015, and is submitted to the House and Senate Judiciary Committees, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
