Status of Bankruptcy Judgeships - Judicial Business 2016
As of September 30, 2016, a total of 349 bankruptcy judgeships were authorized and funded, the same number as one year earlier. Of these judgeships, 332 were filled and 17 were vacant (compared to 330 filled positions and 19 vacant positions on the same date in 2015). In addition to judges in authorized positions, 33 retired bankruptcy judges who had been recalled by various circuits were providing service to the Judiciary at the end of 2016.
