Abstract:
The authors assess the effectiveness of location monitoring for federal defendants who were supervised in the community during their time on pretrial supervision. Using quasi-experimental methods, they found that location monitoring significantly reduces the likelihood of rearrest among this sample of defendants. The protective impact of location monitoring was more pronounced among defendants designated as high risk.
