Abstract:
The authors summarize research on the relationship between illegal drug use and crime. First they present prevalence estimates of illicit drug use among criminal justice populations. Then they describe various theories about the relationship between drugs and crime. Finally they discuss the effectiveness of drug treatment compared with other strategies for reducing illicit drug use.
