Abstract:
Recent studies show that parole officers continue to emphasize social casework activities and desire more treatment resources, yet their large caseloads and the current climate force them into a surveillance approach. The author argues that resolving this dichotomy is not impossible, but the search for a solution must focus on the parole system as a whole.
