Abstract:
Despite the willingness of communities to invest in and compete for prison jobs, little is known about public support for the prison industry as a source of economic growth or perceptions about prison work. The author explores public attitudes about the expansion of the prison industry and the quality of the jobs found in prisons and attempts to provide additional insight into a more general concern--understanding the quality of prison employment.
