Abstract:
The authors examine the relationship between the number of persons sentenced to federal prison and the number received into postconviction supervision, hoping to explain past deviations from a simple causal model of the defendant-to-supervised-release process and, by gaining a better understanding, improve the Administrative Office of the U.S. Court's annual forecast of individuals under supervision.
