Overview of the Position | The Clerk’s Office is seeking multiple interns to provide clerical and administrative support across three departments at the Manhattan Courthouse: Docket Services & Miscellaneous Case Operations, Interpreters Office, and IT Department. The selected interns will be assigned to a particular department for the term of their internship based upon their skills, experience, and interest. The program is a directed and practical learning experience that offers hands-on experience in a professional setting, where interns will assist courthouse staff with technical support, troubleshooting, and contribute to a range of office functions and operations. The start and end dates of this internship are flexible; it is expected to start in early June of 2025 and end by late August of 2025. |

Position Description
In this role, interns will have the opportunity to observe court proceedings and gain valuable insight into the workings of the federal court system. In the Docket Services & Miscellaneous Case Operations department, interns will engage with the daily operations of the Pro Se and Attorney Services units. In the IT department, they will gain practical experience within a federal government environment, developing technical troubleshooting and customer support skills. In the Interpreters Office, interns will learn about the office's crucial role in supporting court functions, further deepening their understanding of the judicial system.
Key responsibilities include scanning documents, organizing unit records, assisting with system maintenance, and helping to create guides, manuals, and training materials. Additional duties may include photocopying and providing support for special projects as assigned. Each intern will report directly to the directors of their respective departments.
Qualifications
Interns must be enrolled, or a recent graduate of an approved university or technical program related in the field. Preference will be given to interns who have a major or minor in criminal justice, law or the legal system, information technology, foreign language, interpretation and translation, or any closely related field of study. Interns who have an interest in the state/local or federal courts or government will also be given preference.
General Experience
This internship requires excellent communication skills (written and oral), strong interpersonal skills, computer literacy, basic math, and some knowledge of legal terminology. The incumbent must be punctual and reliable.
