Overview of the Position The U.S. District Court, Middle District of Pennsylvania, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of full-time (40 hours/week) Death Penalty Law Clerk. This position is authorized until Sept. 30, 2027, and may be extended further, contingent on pending death penalty cases and budgetary funding. Recertification may be required each year thereafter to continue the position. The selected candidate must be available to begin employment no later than June 9, 2025. The Death Penalty Law Clerk works directly with Judges on managing death penalty, pro se prisoner civil rights and habeas corpus cases, as well as assists with the Court’s case related workload; independently performs initial procedural and substantive review of case records and filings; conducts legal research and analysis; drafts proposed opinions, memoranda, and orders; and provides information to Chambers and Court staff. Position is eligible for telework.
