Overview of the Position | The court is accepting applications for a Term Law Clerk position on behalf of U.S. Magistrate Judge Helena Barch-Kuchta for our Yosemite National Park office. The Term Clerk position is for a one-year or two-year term that may be extended to four years, depending on prior federal term clerking time in service. The incumbent will complete research and writing on a wide range of issues that arise in federal litigation, with a primary focus on pro se prisoner litigation and criminal misdemeanor matters. This will include substantively reviewing pleadings and drafting orders on matters pending before the judge. The Term Law Clerk will also be responsible for monitoring cases and performing case management duties for their assigned caseload. The selected applicant may work in the Fresno Courthouse or the Yosemite Courthouse. Access to rental housing through the U.S. Park Service will be available if the candidate works in the Yosemite Courthouse. Alternatively, the Court will consider full-time telework for qualified applicants. An applicant’s preference for a one or two-year term of appointment will be considered and must be included in the applicant’s introductory cover letter. The applicant’s cover letter must also indicate preference of work location: Fresno, Yosemite or full-time telework. |
